How can reflexology help?

Stress on the body causes physical changes designed to help you take on threats and difficulties. Your heart may start to pound, your breathing quickens, your muscles tense and you start to sweat. Once the threat or difficulty passes, these physical effects usually fade. But if you’re constantly stressed, your body stays in a state of high alert and you may develop stress-related symptoms.
You can’t always prevent stress, but reflexology can help you to manage stress better and can help alleviate a wide range of the symptoms.
As many as 80% of illnesses can be directly attributed to stress. Prolonged stress can lead to tissue damage and disease and can be responsible for a number of conditions. These include Heart Disease; High Blood Pressure; High Cholesterol; Infertility; Asthma; Headaches; Insomnia; Obesity; Type II Diabetes; Anxiety; Irritable Bowel Syndrome; Gastric Reflux; Depression; Decreased Sex Drive; Adrenal Fatigue; Chronic Pain; Fatigue; Hormonal Imbalances; Migraines; Autoimmune diseases; and Skin conditions such as Eczema, Psoriasis which can all be treated, in addition to the underlying cause.
In a stressed state the body’s immune system works less effectively as the sympathetic nervous system sends signals to decrease its activity. Regular reflexology treatments can trigger the immune response so that you are less likely to fall ill and can recover at a quicker rate if you do contract bacterial and viral illnesses. The endocrine system and the nervous system can be balanced in order to move the body from the ‘fight or flight’ response to a state of ‘rest and repair’. Working the lymphatic, circulatory and the urinary systems on the feet helps to eliminate toxins and waste products from the body, maintaining a state of homeostasis – a constant state of balance.
When you can’t control what’s happening, challenge yourself to control the way you respond to what’s happening. That’s where the power is.
